Is there a difference between Tempurpedic memory foam and generic memory foam?

Is there a difference between Tempurpedic memory foam and generic memory foam?
They feel similar as far as comfort when new in the store, but will the more costly Tempurpedic be more durable or comfortable in the long run? Does anyone have experience with this?
